Local housebuilders Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes have donated £1,500 to the Hertfordshire-based charity and social enterprise Sunnyside Rural Trust. The donation will support the training and education of young people and adults with learning disabilities in the local area.
Supporting Skills and Confidence
Operating in Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted, and Northchurch, Sunnyside Rural Trust helps participants develop practical skills, build confidence, and work towards greater independence. Activities include horticulture, landscaping, beekeeping, animal care, and food growing. Founded in 1990, the organisation has grown from a small horticultural project into a thriving community charity supporting more than 170 vulnerable people.
New Tools for Sustainable Growth
The donation, provided through the housebuilders’ charitable arm, the Barratt Redrow Foundation, will be used to purchase new gardening tools. This allows Sunnyside Rural Trust to replace older equipment with more environmentally friendly electric alternatives, supporting the day-to-day work of programme participants.
Emma Power, Chief Operating Officer at Sunnyside Rural Trust, said: “Thank you to Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes North Thames for their generous donation. We’re heading into our busiest period as we transition from spring to summer, with many of our programmes now in full swing. The new tools will be used by volunteers across a range of projects, helping to grow and cultivate not just plants and produce, but confidence and life skills.”
Marc Woolfe, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt David Wilson North Thames, added: “It’s an absolute pleasure to support Sunnyside Rural Trust and the fantastic work that they do – not only in landscaping and gardening across Hertfordshire, but also in supporting individuals to reach their full potential. We look forward to seeing their hard work in full bloom this summer.”
