Television presenter, author, and charity founder Katie Piper OBE is returning to London this autumn to take on the Thames Bridges Trek alongside a group of fellow burns survivors. The 25-kilometer walking challenge, set for Saturday, September 12, will see participants cross 16 historic bridges from Putney Bridge to Southwark Park, passing iconic landmarks along the way.
Charity Mission and Personal Journey
Piper established the Katie Piper Foundation in 2009 after her own recovery from life-changing burns injuries. The foundation is the only UK charity offering a complete rehabilitation pathway for burns survivors after initial NHS hospital care, providing specialist physiotherapy, psychological support, and personalised programmes to help individuals rebuild strength, independence, and self-belief.
“This walk is a powerful symbol of resilience,” said a foundation spokesperson. “For many survivors, completing such a distance represents a major milestone in their recovery journey.”
Event Details and Participation
The Thames Bridges Trek offers multiple options, including a 10km route and a separate night walk. Thousands of walkers are expected to take part, with fundraising entry options available online. Piper hopes her participation will inspire others to take on the challenge and support the cause.
The event holds deep significance for the charity, which ensures no survivor faces their recovery alone. Long-term physical and emotional hurdles are common after burns trauma, and the foundation’s services aim to address these through clinical care and community support.
