A dedicated fundraiser from Carmarthenshire has completed a gruelling half marathon, raising a significant sum for a vital local NHS service.
A Personal Challenge for a Vital Cause
Ceris Powell, who lives in Glanamman, took on the challenge of the Cardiff Half Marathon in October. She was motivated by a deeply personal cause: to raise funds for the chemotherapy day unit at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. Her uncle, Lyndon, has been receiving treatment there, and Ceris wanted to show her gratitude for the care he has received.
Despite finding the 13.1-mile race a tough physical test, Ceris persevered and her efforts were hugely successful. She managed to raise an impressive total of £700 for the unit. The funds were donated to Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of the Hywel Dda University Health Board.
Praise for NHS Staff and Community Support
Speaking about her motivation, Ceris expressed immense gratitude towards the hospital staff. “We can't praise the staff enough for the kindness, care and compassion shown to my uncle,” she said. She added that while the half marathon was a challenge, it was incredibly rewarding to contribute to such a good cause.
The donation was formally presented to cancer pharmacist Phil Hook, Claire Rees, and senior sister Kath Watkins at the hospital. Claire Rumble, the fundraising officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, thanked Ceris for her fantastic support.
“We can’t thank Ceris enough for her support for the chemotherapy day unit. Your efforts mean so much to us,” said Ms Rumble. “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services above and beyond what the NHS can provide in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, and we are very grateful for every donation we receive.”
