Southport Macmillan Centre Celebrates Volunteers During National Volunteers' Week
Macmillan Centre Celebrates Volunteers' Week

Celebrating Our Volunteers

The first week of June is National Volunteers' Week. We take this opportunity to thank our volunteers and celebrate the great work they do for us in the Macmillan Centre. We have Volunteer Walk Leaders, volunteers who lead our fitness classes, volunteers who manage our social media, and volunteers who help at events, groups, and special activities.

Most of our volunteers have a personal experience of cancer or have been a carer of someone with a cancer experience. It is very special for us when people want to give something back to the service that has helped them.

Volunteer Thank You Event

This year we held a Volunteer Thank You event at Hoghton Street Lounge in Southport, and some of our volunteers also attended the Sefton Volunteers' Centre Event, where they received certificates from the Mayor of Sefton and enjoyed an Afternoon Tea at Bootle Town Hall.

The Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteering is one of the cornerstones of wellbeing. It is well known that giving back to your community can give you a sense of purpose and belonging. For young people, it can be a chance to gain valuable work experience and for retirees, it can be a way of handing on your long-developed skills and experience.

How to Get Involved

If you are interested in volunteering in your local area, please contact Sefton's Volunteer Centre at Volunteering in Sefton – Volunteer Centre Sefton. Along with other local voluntary organisations, we advertise our volunteer vacancies at the site. If you would like to volunteer for Macmillan Cancer Support, please see their website: Volunteering | Macmillan Cancer Support.

There are many different types of volunteering available, from micro-volunteering, such as sending a card to people taking part in Macmillan's Mighty Hikes, to supporting groups and activities in your local community on a very regular basis. Many organisations are also looking for trustees, which is a good chance to use your skills and experience to help to offer governance to local charities.

If you are a volunteer whether locally or in a national charity, we thank you for all your kindness in giving your time to help others.
