Bollington Mayor to Host Gala Charity Dinner for Local Causes
Bollington Mayor Jon Weston, alongside Mayoress Helen Weston, is preparing to host a significant charity dinner next month, aiming to generate vital funds for two important local organisations. The event will directly benefit East Cheshire Hospice and the community station Canalside Radio, both of which have been selected as Councillor Weston's chosen charities for his term.
Event Details and Community Support
The gala evening is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 21, commencing at 7 pm at the prestigious Hollin House Hotel in Kerridge. The occasion has already garnered support from several other local Mayors within the region, highlighting the widespread community backing for these causes. Tickets for the dinner are priced at £55 per person and remain available for purchase.
Interested attendees can secure their places by contacting Bollington Town Manager, Harriet Worrell, via email at townmanager@bollington-tc.gov.uk or by telephoning 01625 572985. Comprehensive event information is accessible through the town council's official website.
Fundraising Efforts and Personal Connections
This dinner forms a key part of Mayor Weston's ongoing fundraising initiatives. He has already secured £650 from a separate event that was ultimately cancelled. Undeterred, Jon, accompanied by his black Labrador Molly, completed a 5k walk independently after a planned Pie and Pint walk could not proceed. He remarked, "I picked a route and we wandered off. I had got sponsorship so decided to do it. I had a pint at the end but never ended up having a pie."
The cause holds a profound personal significance for the Mayoress, Helen Weston, who experienced the compassionate care provided by the hospice firsthand following the loss of her mother, Patricia, two years ago. This personal connection underscores the dinner's importance in supporting end-of-life care services within the community.
Evening Entertainment and Attire
Guests are encouraged to 'dress to impress' for the evening, which will feature entertainment provided by Bollington-based Canalside Radio. A charity auction is also planned, with organisers hopeful it will substantially boost the total funds raised on the night.
Mayor's Reflections on a Busy Term
Councillor Jon Weston is currently serving his second term as Mayor of Bollington, having previously held the office seven years ago. Reflecting on his tenure, he stated, "It's been a busy year but great fun and very enjoyable. I've attended countless events, including 90th birthdays, brownies, guides and air cadets. I'm lucky to have an excellent town manager in Harriet who has kept me busy." This dinner represents a capstone fundraising effort during his active and community-focused mayoral year.
