Aurora Meldreth Manor School and Children’s Home, together with Aurora Orchard Manor Care Home in Fenny Lane, has been recognised by the Alzheimer’s Society for raising more than £3,300 over the past five years through its annual Elf Day fundraising efforts.
Elf Day Success
The Meldreth-based education and care services have participated in the charity’s national December campaign since 2019. Participation has grown each year to include staff and young people across the site.
Principal Denise Grayston said the initiative began as a light-hearted idea but quickly gathered momentum. She explained that colleagues were amused to see her dressed as an elf during the working day and were happy to donate. Activities have now expanded to include 'sElfie' photos and festive snacks to boost fundraising.
Recognition and Impact
Alzheimer’s Society regional fundraiser Natalie Skipper visited the site on April 23 to thank the team for their continued support. She praised the 'fabulous Elf Day fundraising' and highlighted the impact of every donation in supporting people living with dementia.
Denise added that the most recent Elf Day raised more than £1,000, including Gift Aid, making it the most successful year yet. She credited the generosity of colleagues, families, and friends.
With around one million people living with dementia in the UK, the Alzheimer’s Society says ongoing community fundraising remains vital to supporting those affected and working towards ending the condition’s impact.
