Mother-Daughter RNLI Duo Ready to Drop Mother's Day Plans for Rescue Calls
This Sunday, a remarkable mother and daughter from Flint RNLI will be celebrating Mother's Day in a unique way. Amanda and Lauren plan to enjoy a peaceful day walking their dogs and sharing a meal together. However, their celebration comes with a critical caveat: both women will be fully prepared to drop everything at a moment's notice if their pagers sound, signaling that someone in distress needs their immediate help.
Volunteer Crew Members Since May 2025
Mother and daughter, Amanda and Lauren, have been dedicated volunteer crew members at Flint RNLI since May 2025. Their journey into lifesaving began when Lauren's friend invited her on an acquaintance trip, offering a firsthand taste of what it means to be an RNLI volunteer. Lauren quickly realized this was an opportunity her mother would cherish.
Lauren recalled: "I thought mum would really enjoy this opportunity and would be welcomed by the lifeboat crew. I brought her along one day while I was becoming acquainted with the lifeboat; she loved it and even took some images while she was there."
The experience was so positive that both decided to sign up and become integral parts of the crew. "We both enjoyed the experience and were so welcomed by everyone on the lifeboat and at the station, we decided to sign up and become part of the crew!" Lauren added.
Balancing Life and Lifesaving Duties
Outside of their demanding roles as lifeboat volunteers, Amanda and Lauren lead busy lives. Amanda works as a part-time photographer, while Lauren is a full-time nurse. In her spare time, Lauren is also a talented singer, frequently performing at numerous charity events for the RNLI in Flint, North Wales, using her voice to support the cause she serves.
Their commitment to the RNLI has only grown stronger. On February 21, Amanda passed out as shore crew, making her fully operational on the lifeboat. Lauren has also achieved full operational status after recently passing out on her Crew Emergency Procedures course in Poole. Both have since received their official crew kits and pagers, solidifying their roles as ready responders.
Strengthening Bonds Through Service
Amanda and Lauren's shared experience has not only enhanced their lifesaving skills but also deepened their personal bond. Amanda explained: "We both enjoy being part of the crew and try to support each other in the development of our RNLI careers. It has strengthened our bond and enabled us to work together more cohesively as a crew, while also building a supportive network among ourselves, one that helps us navigate difficult calls and celebrate our achievements together."
Lauren echoed this sentiment, highlighting their mutual pride: "We both participate in the same lifeboat training exercises and are really proud of each other for our accomplishments in the RNLI."
Mother's Day on Standby
To celebrate Mother's Day this year, Amanda and Lauren will take their dogs for a walk and go out for dinner together. Yet, even on this special day, their pagers will be within reach, a constant reminder of their duty to the community. Their story is a powerful testament to the spirit of volunteerism and the unbreakable bond between a mother and daughter dedicated to saving lives.
