A Merseyside man living with Parkinson's disease has raised more than £1,200 for charity after completing a personal skateboarding challenge. Philip Brown, 58, from Newton-le-Willows, successfully performed 'ten tricks on a skateboard' at Ramp 1 Skatepark in Warrington, raising £1,237 for Parkinson's UK – more than double his original £500 target.
Philip, who has been skateboarding for three years, took on the challenge to give something back and support others living with the condition. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in April 2018 after experiencing symptoms including rigidity, slow movement, difficulty concentrating, and pain in his arm and leg. The condition continues to affect his mobility, daily activities, and ability to travel.
Overcoming Challenges
Despite challenges with balance, nerves, and movement, Philip completed the event and said he wanted to help others facing similar struggles. He also runs a local Parkinson's social group in Newton-le-Willows, providing a space for people to share experiences and support one another.
Charity Thanks
A spokesperson from Parkinson's UK thanked Philip for his efforts, highlighting that the condition affects around 166,000 people in the UK and currently has no cure.
Donations to support Philip's fundraising can be made via his JustGiving page.
