On Friday, March 6th, 2026, television legend Paul Chuckle MBE visited Birmingham as part of his nationwide 'Thank you' tour for the leading end-of-life charity, Marie Curie. The event drew a crowd of enthusiastic fans who lined up in Victoria Square to meet the star and take photos with him.
Tour Aims to Raise £40,000 for Marie Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal
Paul Chuckle's tour is dedicated to raising £40,000 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Marie Curie's flagship fundraiser, the Great Daffodil Appeal. The tour began in John O'Groats on Tuesday, March 3rd, and will conclude at Land's End on Wednesday, March 11th. As an official Marie Curie ambassador since 2016, Paul has been stopping at various locations to connect with fans, supporters, and staff members of the charity.
In Birmingham, attendees had the opportunity to snap pictures with Paul in the 'Daff bike,' a specially branded Marie Curie 'Chuckle bike' that has become a symbol of the tour. The atmosphere was lively and supportive, highlighting the community's engagement with the cause.
Local Star Jaki Graham Joins the Event
Birmingham-born soul singer Jaki Graham, a dedicated Marie Curie supporter since 2019, joined Paul Chuckle at the event. She expressed her enthusiasm for participating, especially in her hometown. Jaki shared, "It was a pleasure to join Paul in Victoria Square and hop in the 'Daff bike' for a chat. We had great fun, and all for a fantastic cause." She also praised Paul for undertaking the extensive tour, calling it a brilliant way to mark the 40-year milestone of the Great Daffodil Appeal.
Importance of the Great Daffodil Appeal
The Great Daffodil Appeal is Marie Curie's annual fundraising campaign, encouraging the public to wear a daffodil pin throughout March and donate to support end-of-life care. The funds raised enable Marie Curie Nurses and healthcare professionals to provide expert care in homes, hospitals, and hospices across the UK, including the facility on March Lane in Solihull.
Paul Chuckle has a personal connection to the charity's work, as his brother Barry, who was also a Marie Curie ambassador, received invaluable care from the charity at the end of his life in 2018. This personal experience has fueled Paul's dedication to the cause.
Marie Curie Officials Express Gratitude
Laura Greensall, Clinical Lead for Marie Curie Midlands, commented on the significance of Paul's visit. She said, "Having Paul in Birmingham and being able to talk to him about our services across the Midlands has been brilliant. We discussed the care provided at the Marie Curie Hospice in Solihull and our wider support, including hospice care at home and the Marie Curie Companions service." She added that the tour helps thank staff and volunteers while raising funds and awareness for end-of-life services.
The event in Birmingham underscores the ongoing efforts to support Marie Curie's vital work, with Paul Chuckle's tour serving as a key initiative to engage communities and drive donations for the Great Daffodil Appeal.
