Kahlila Okwedy, a seven-year-old pupil at Manorbier VC Primary School in Pembrokeshire, has chosen to donate her long hair to The Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides free wigs to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other medical conditions. Her sponsored haircut is scheduled for July 10, just before the school closes at the end of this term.
A Selfless Act Amid Sadness
The school community is facing the closure of Manorbier VC Primary, but Kahlila's kindness has brought a moment of pride. She decided to cut her hair and raise funds for children in need. Her mother, speaking to the local press, said: "Kahlila has always had a big heart. She wanted to do something to help other children feel better about themselves."
Fundraising for The Little Princess Trust
Kahlila is fundraising via a JustGiving page, hoping to collect donations to support the charity's work. The Little Princess Trust has provided thousands of wigs to young people since its founding in 2006. Every donation, no matter the size, helps make a real difference to those who need it most.
A School That Fosters Kindness
Manorbier VC Primary School, with its mixed-age classes and close-knit community, has nurtured pupils who are resilient and compassionate. Headteacher Jane Smith commented: "We are incredibly proud of Kahlila. Her generosity reflects the values we hold dear at this school." The school's closure has brought sadness, but stories like Kahlila's highlight the lasting impact of its ethos.
