Festive Stars Illuminate Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals, Raising £21,9k
Shining Stars Campaign Raises £21.9k for Hospitals

The annual festive campaign 'Our Shining Stars' has successfully raised an impressive £21,900 for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) Charity. This heartwarming initiative sees large, illuminated stars displayed prominently across hospital sites, with the 2025 edition marking a significant expansion into the wider community.

Community Expansion and Generous Sponsorship

For the first time, the campaign extended beyond hospital grounds, with stars shining on Bawtry high street and at the local restaurant, Ziniz. This community outreach helped to broaden the campaign's impact and visibility. A total of 26 sponsors generously supported the effort, dedicating stars in honour of loved ones, colleagues, and hospital teams. These sponsors included a diverse mix of local businesses, organisations, schools, and individuals.

Heartfelt Tributes and Special Events

Many stars served as poignant memorials, including dedications by the Neonatal team in memory of Donna, Mason's family in memory of Mason, and in memory of Karen Cross. The festive spirit was truly brought to life during special switch-on events held at both Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital. Patients, staff, and visitors gathered to celebrate, enjoying performances by school choirs from Norbridge Academy and St Wilfrid's School, who sang seasonal favourites.

Funds Making a Real Difference

Adrian Petts, Head of Charity at DBTH, expressed profound gratitude: "Our Shining Stars continues to show just how generous and supportive our local community is. Each star represents a heartfelt tribute and a powerful symbol of the community's support for local NHS services." He emphasised that the funds raised will directly enhance patient care, improve hospital environments, and support the hardworking staff across the Trust.

Building on Success and Future Plans

The 2025 campaign builds upon the continued success of 'Our Shining Stars', which has raised tens of thousands of pounds since its launch in 2020. Ross Jarvie, Chair of Visit Bawtry (Bawtry Retail Association), commented on the partnership: "We have been delighted to be involved... The stars looked fantastic on Ziniz and our partnership included a pop-up Santa's grotto. We are already planning December 2026 to be even better!"

The charity extends its thanks to all sponsors and supporters, including notable contributors such as Retford Oaks, GXO Logistics, The End of Life Team, Albemarle Homes, and Amazon. Individuals and organisations interested in sponsoring a star for the 2026 campaign are encouraged to contact the charity team.
