Staffordshire murder probe: teen dies, four arrested

Police in Staffordshire have issued a fresh witness appeal after a murder investigation was launched following the death of a teenager in Stoke-on-Trent. The appeal comes as four males remain in custody on suspicion of murder.

Officers were called to Brookhouse Road in Meir at 11.45pm on Friday 9 October following reports of violence. A man in his late teens was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, and a second man, also in his late teens, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He is reported to be in a stable condition.

Four males—aged 17, two aged 18, and a 20-year-old—were arrested a short time later in connection with the investigation. They each remain in police custody.

Police appeal for witnesses and footage

Detectives are urging anyone who saw anything or who has CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage of the Brookhouse Road area between 9pm on Friday 9 October and just after midnight on Saturday 10 October to come forward. A Major Incident Public Portal has been set up for people to submit information and footage directly to the police.

In a statement, police said: "Our detectives are continuing to investigate a murder and serious assault in Stoke-on-Trent. We were called at 11.45pm yesterday (Friday 9 October) to Brookhouse Road in Meir following reports of violence. Sadly, a man in his late teens was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene and another man, also in his late teens, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition."

Ongoing police presence and inquiries

Officers are maintaining a visible presence in the area on Saturday 10 October and are conducting house-to-house inquiries. A cordon remains in place as the investigation continues.

The police statement added: "Four people were arrested a short time later in connection with the investigation and they each remain in our custody at this time. Officers are continuing to maintain a visible presence in the area today (Saturday 10 October) and are conducting a number of house-to-house inquiries. A cordon remains in place and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have relevant information, CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time of the incident."

Detective's plea to the community

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Cooke, of the major and organised crime unit, said: "We understand that this is a worrying time for our communities as we come to terms with the tragic events of last night, where sadly, one young person lost their life and another was seriously injured. That is why we are asking the public to give us any information or footage they may have, so we can continue to build a picture of the circumstances surrounding what happened. Our thoughts continue to be with the families of the young men affected, who are being supported by specialist officers at this immensely difficult time."

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have asked anyone with information to contact them via the Major Incident Public Portal or by calling 101, quoting incident number 764 of 9 October.
