The Skipton and District Christian Aid Group recently welcomed dozens of diners to a fundraising lunch in Embsay, raising an impressive £541.60 through generous donations. This charitable event took place at the Methodist Hall, offering attendees a delightful meal of homemade soup, cheese, and hot drinks.
A Longstanding Tradition of Giving
Group member Liz Roodhouse highlighted the event's history, stating, "We have been providing a Lent Lunch with a Fairtrade stall for at least 20 years in Embsay. This year was incredibly busy, with people even coming over from Sheffield." She added that the atmosphere was particularly warm, with Christian Aid placemats and specially made table decorations enhancing the experience.
Fostering Community Connections
Roodhouse noted, "There was plenty of sharing going on, and many people commented on the lovely atmosphere - the large tables encouraged people to chat to each other and get to know people they hadn't met before." This emphasis on community interaction helped create a memorable and engaging event for all participants.
Supporting Global Humanitarian Efforts
The funds raised will support projects funded by Christian Aid, an international development agency. This organization collaborates with partners overseas to deliver humanitarian aid in emergencies and implement longer-term initiatives. These projects are tailored to meet specific community needs, ranging from:
- Emergency shelter and medicine
- Urban gardening schemes
- Counselling for survivors of sexual violence
Christian Aid's work focuses on providing sustainable solutions and immediate relief in crisis situations, making every donation crucial for their global impact.
