Hyndburn Charities Launch Sunrise to Sunset Walking Challenge 2026
Sunrise to Sunset Walking Challenge 2026 in Hyndburn

Two leading Hyndburn charities, Accrington Stanley Community Trust and Community Solutions North West, are joining forces to launch an inspiring new fundraising event – the Sunrise to Sunset Walking Challenge 2026.

Taking place on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Wilson Playing Fields and Sports Village, the event invites individuals, groups, and organisations from across the community to walk from sunrise to sunset on one of the longest days of the year. Participants will set off as the sun rises at 4.43am and continue through to sunset at 9.22pm, with the flexibility to walk as much or as little as they choose throughout the day.

The challenge aims to raise vital funds and awareness for both charities, which are dedicated to improving health, well-being, and community connection across Hyndburn and beyond. The event also encourages people to step outside their comfort zones, build connections, and experience the positive impact of physical activity on mental well-being.

Joanna Williams from Accrington Stanley Community Trust said: “We’re proud to be partnering on an event that truly reflects what community is all about. The Sunrise to Sunset Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to come together, get active, and support causes that make a real difference locally. Whether you walk for an hour or the full day, you’ll be part of something really special.”

The organisers are calling on businesses, schools, community groups, sports clubs, and individuals to get involved. No prior connection to either charity is required, making the event open and accessible to all.

Participants can take part in a variety of ways – from walking a few miles, to completing the full 17-hour challenge, hosting a walking meeting, or pledging a distance in support of the cause. Chris Emmerson from Community Solutions North West said: “This event captures the spirit of everything we stand for, connection, wellbeing, and supporting one another. We know the simple act of walking and talking can have a powerful impact on people’s mental health, and this challenge is a chance to experience that while raising vital funds to continue our work across the community. We’d encourage everyone to get involved and be part of it.”
