Teaching Assistant's Charity Evening Raises £4,000 for Hospital Chemotherapy Unit
Danielle Allcard, a dedicated teaching assistant at Ysgol Gymraeg Llangennech, has successfully organised a charity evening that raised an impressive £4,000 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital. The event, held in November 2025 at Llangennech Rugby Club, was a heartfelt initiative to give back to the unit that provided her with exceptional care during her own treatment for ovarian cancer the previous year.
A Personal Mission of Gratitude
Danielle expressed her deep appreciation for the support she received, stating, "I wanted to give back to the Chemotherapy Day Unit as thanks for their kindness and for looking after me so well whilst I was receiving chemotherapy treatment for ovarian cancer last year." She highlighted the success of the evening, noting, "The event went very well. It was great fun and nice to see lots of people contribute towards a good cause." Danielle extended her gratitude to Llangennech Rugby Club, all attendees, and everyone who donated, emphasising the community's role in making the fundraiser a triumph.
Hospital Staff Express Their Thanks
Kath Watkins, Senior Sister at the Chemotherapy Day Unit, responded with heartfelt thanks on behalf of the staff and patients. She said, "On behalf of the staff and patients at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital, I would like to thank Danielle and her family and friends for their fundraising efforts resulting in a very generous donation of £4,000." Watkins assured that the funds will be used to enhance patient care and the unit's environment, stating, "We are always looking at ways to improve the environment and improve the way we care for patients within the Chemotherapy Day Unit. Please be assured that this money will go towards this improvement. Thank you!"
Community Support Makes a Difference
Claire Rumble, Fundraising Officer, also praised Danielle's efforts, remarking, "Thank you to Danielle for taking the time to organise such a fantastic event in aid of the chemo unit." She underscored the importance of local community support, explaining, "The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive." This event exemplifies how individual initiatives can significantly impact healthcare services, fostering a stronger, more supportive community network.
