The Maidstone branch of Parkinson's UK has issued an urgent appeal for a new volunteer leader to help support local people living with Parkinson's. The branch offers a range of activities, including monthly meetings that provide social opportunities, tea, and friendly conversation.
Role offers flexibility and impact
The flexible volunteer role involves organising monthly committee meetings, taking basic notes, handling general administration, and helping to plan community events. The position offers a significant impact, ensuring local people can access activities that improve their daily lives.
Parkinson's is a complex brain condition that worsens over time, with more than 40 different symptoms. In the UK, someone is diagnosed every 20 minutes, and there is currently no cure.
Lifeline for the community
Elisa Bienz, from Parkinson's UK, said: “The Maidstone Branch is a lifeline for people in the local area who are living with Parkinson’s, but we rely on volunteers to help us keep these groups running. If you can spare a few hours a month I’d love to welcome you to volunteer alongside the amazing people who are part of this branch- because with your support we really can change lives. As well as making a big difference to people living with Parkinson’s in your local community, volunteering is a great opportunity to have new experiences and meet new people. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.”
Meeting details and contact information
The friendly Maidstone group meets from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on the first Thursday of every month at Maidstone Hockey Club on Armstrong Road. For questions or to discuss volunteering, call Elisa Bienz on 07955 269507 or email ebienz@parkinsons.org.uk.
