Volunteer Shares Joyful Experience on Moya Cole Hospice Fundraising Committee
Gwyneth Roper, a dedicated volunteer at Moya Cole Hospice, has opened up about her uplifting and positive journey as a member of a fundraising committee. Her involvement began almost by chance, leading to a deeply rewarding commitment that has enriched her life and supported the hospice's vital work.
An Accidental Start to a Meaningful Role
Gwyneth recalls how she initially attended a fundraising meeting, expecting it to be a casual discussion about ideas. "I thought it was just going to be about passing around ideas," she said. "When I got there, they were talking about setting up a fundraising committee for the hospice. I thought that it was a bit much to help set up a committee, but when I met the other people and how lovely they all were, I couldn’t help but join." This serendipitous encounter quickly turned into a heartfelt engagement with the cause.
The Personal Rewards of Committee Participation
Being part of the committee has brought Gwyneth immense satisfaction, largely due to the connections she has forged. "I get a lot out of being a part of the committee, and a lot of that is down to the people I’ve met," she explained. Having previously worked at the hospice, she has a firsthand understanding of how fundraising directly benefits patients, making her role even more meaningful.
Gwyneth also emphasizes the continuous learning opportunities. "Every day is a school day," she noted. "I’ve learnt social networking skills, developed computer skills, learned how to set up a Vinted account, and so much more. I’m always learning with the committee." This growth has added to the joy of her volunteer experience.
Impactful Fundraising Events and Future Expansion
The committee focuses on organizing one major event annually, along with two smaller gatherings. A standout moment for Gwyneth was the Frocks and Fizz evening held last year, which raised over £7,000. "It was such a joy," she shared, highlighting the pride she feels in contributing to such successful initiatives. "The main thing for me, as I said, was meeting the other people through the committee and being able to share that with them."
Moya Cole Hospice is now seeking to establish three new fundraising committees in the areas of Didsbury and Chorlton, the Heatons and Reddish, and Marple and Romiley. This expansion aims to broaden community support and enhance fundraising efforts across Greater Manchester.
