Bassetlaw Achievers Awards 2024 Shine Spotlight on District's Finest

The Bassetlaw Achievers Awards made a triumphant return this year, honouring the exceptional efforts of 28 individuals and three community groups whose dedicated work has significantly enhanced the lives of residents across the district. This annual ceremony recognises those who make a positive impact through various avenues, including charitable endeavours, personal or business achievements, sporting excellence, community activities, and demonstrating remarkable resilience in challenging circumstances.

Ceremony Highlights and Key Winners

The awards ceremony was held at Worksop Town Hall on March 18, where the Chair of Bassetlaw District Council, Councillor Tony Eaton, presented accolades to winners nominated by district councillors, schools, community groups, parish councils, and the public. Among the standout recipients was Bill Bryan, acknowledged for his lifelong commitment to honouring fallen service personnel through his work with the Royal British Legion and the Western Front Association. His efforts, spanning decades from laying crosses in France to assisting with the rededication of the Nether Langwith War Memorial, have ensured that sacrifices are never forgotten.

From the Heart Charity was also celebrated for its profound impact in supporting Bassetlaw families via food parcels, donations, community events, and offering a warm, listening ear to those in need. Their initiatives have helped reduce isolation, build confidence, and provide hope during difficult times. Additionally, Mark Marshall from Retford received recognition for his extraordinary achievements in golf, including winning a World Championship in the North-East last year. Despite losing his right arm in a workplace accident over a decade ago, Mark's determination and passion have propelled him to excel at the highest levels of the sport.
