Nominate West Midlands Unsung Heroes for Outstanding Citizens Awards 2026
Nominate Unsung Heroes for Outstanding Citizens Awards 2026

The search for the West Midlands' unsung heroes has officially begun. The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner has launched the Outstanding Citizens Awards 2026, inviting nominations for everyday heroes who go above and beyond to keep communities safe, support victims of crime, and act as positive role models.

Last year, a successful ceremony was held in Smethwick, recognizing extraordinary individuals for their selflessness. This year, BirminghamLive is again partnering with the Police and Crime Commissioner to host the event at the Coventry Boys and Girls Club in Coventry city centre on Monday, September 28.

The club has used key funding to support young people in Coventry's most disadvantaged areas, providing a safe haven and addressing critical issues impacting the city's youth.

Editor's Comments

Graeme Brown, editor at BirminghamLive, said: "At a time when focus is on what makes the people of the West Midlands different from one another, what a wonderful time to celebrate what makes us all brilliant. It is with great pride BirminghamLive supports these awards, and I look forward to celebrating with another tranche of wonderful people who think of others before they think of themselves."

Commissioner's Call

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster said: "These awards are about celebrating the unsung heroes from across our region who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make our communities safer. Whether it is a young leader or a community group supporting the vulnerable, we want to hear their stories. I urge everyone to nominate and help us give these outstanding citizens the recognition they deserve."

Youth Services Manager's View

Leah O'Loughlin, youth services manager at Coventry Boys and Girls Club, added: "Being recognised at last year's awards meant a great deal to our team and the young people we support. This recognition motivates us to keep expanding our work, reaching more young people, and continuing to be a trusted and empowering presence in the community. We are honoured to host this year's ceremony and celebrate the positive impact being made across the city."
