Two men have been charged with murder in connection with the death of 20-year-old Jamie Evans in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Corey Hughes, 20, and Connor Edward Cartlidge, 22, both from Newcastle-under-Lyme, face charges of murder and possession of a knife in a public place. They are due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday, September 8.
Incident on Orme Road
Staffordshire Police responded to a call from West Midlands Ambulance Service to Orme Road just after 5pm on Friday, September 4. Medics were attending to a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a parked Audi. The driver of the Ford was Jamie Evans, from Stone, who was found with a serious injury consistent with a stab wound.
Police believe he suffered the wound on Orme Road before getting into the car. Jamie was later pronounced dead.
Arrests and charges
Corey Hughes and Connor Edward Cartlidge have been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place. A 19-year-old man, also from Newcastle-under-Lyme, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder but has been released on conditional bail as enquiries continue.
Cartlidge and Hughes remain in custody. They are scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday, September 8.
