Welshpool Community Awards Honor Local Heroes

It was a night of celebration and gratitude as Welshpool said a massive thank you to the people who power its community spirit. Welshpool Town Council proudly hosted its annual Community Awards, continuing an 18-year tradition of honouring local excellence. From tireless neighbourhood support to vital charity work, the event recognised the extraordinary individuals whose quiet dedication enriches life across the town every day.

A Tradition of Recognition

The Community Awards, established in 2008, celebrate residents whose dedication, compassion, and voluntary efforts have made a meaningful difference to life in Welshpool. This year's recipients represent a diverse range of community service, from long-standing volunteering to acts of quiet generosity and leadership.

Mr David Corfield

David Corfield, a true local hero, has made Welshpool a better place through his quiet, self-funded efforts. Regularly seen litter-picking, maintaining verges, repairing public benches, and even clearing snow with his own equipment, David's contributions are both practical and impactful. Beyond this, he has played a leading role in community life, including over 30 years supporting the Welshpool Country and Western Festival and over 20 years as Chairman of the Heulwen Trust. His dedication, humility, and direct approach embody the best of community spirit.

Mr Corey Eadasson

Corey Eadasson was honoured for his remarkable generosity and dedication to supporting those in need. Over recent years, Corey and his team have provided hundreds of free meals to schoolchildren during holidays, as well as Christmas dinners for those in need and food for homeless residents. He has also supported local youth initiatives, including providing food for over one hundred young people at The Feathers Youth Club, and continues to assist local sport through matchday catering. His commitment to helping others has had a significant and lasting impact across the community.

Mr Phillip Jones

Phillip Jones received an award for his outstanding efforts over the past three years in bringing people together to raise awareness of, and funds for, Parkinson's disease. His work has helped strengthen community connections while promoting a compelling cause.

Highly Commended

Mrs Pat Jones

Mrs Pat Jones received a Highly Commended certificate in recognition of a lifetime of service to the Welshpool community. She has made a lasting contribution through her work in education, the Guiding movement, and her continued involvement with Welshpool Methodist Church. For the past 16 years, she has played a key role in the Welshpool and District Visually Impaired Club, organising activities, supporting members, and helping the club continue to flourish. Her dedication and compassion have enriched the lives of many people in the town.

The awards highlight the remarkable efforts of individuals who often work quietly behind the scenes, but whose contributions make Welshpool a stronger, more supportive, and more connected community. Welshpool Town Council extends its sincere congratulations and gratitude to all award recipients for their inspiring commitment and service.
