Birmingham Dad Loses 9 Stone After Stroke, Plans Skydive

Michael McMillan, a 58-year-old father of three from Bournville, has shed nine stone and is set to leap from a plane this August after transforming his health following a stroke. He went from 25 stone 8 pounds to 16 stone 1 pound, dropping from a 50-inch waist to 32 inches and swapping 4XL clothes for size large.

From Medication to Lifestyle Change

McMillan initially tried the weight loss drug Mounjaro after his 2023 stroke, losing two stone quickly. But he realised medication wasn't a long-term fix. “I felt nervous and apprehensive,” he said of his first Slimming World meeting in Bournville. He switched to the group, embraced cooking from scratch, and took up swimming.

Inspiring Others as a Consultant

Now, McMillan plans to open his own Slimming World group at The Bulls Head in Kings Norton Green, launching June 29. His journey from type 2 diabetes and stroke recovery to a healthier life has inspired him to help others. “I want to show people that real change is possible,” he said. His skydive in August will cap his remarkable turnaround.
