David Wilson Homes Donates Gardening Gear to Fixby School

Following National Children's Gardening Week, leading West Yorkshire-based housebuilder David Wilson Homes has donated a range of gardening equipment and seeds to Fixby Junior and Infant School in Huddersfield.

Supporting Green-Fingered Pupils

David Wilson Homes' newest development, Hazelwood View, which is local to the school, donated gardening gloves, aprons, tools, vegetable seeds, and compost to pupils eager to enrich their joy of gardening. National Children's Gardening Week celebrates the fun that gardens hold for children, who often enjoy gardening but may lack the patience to see results. The initiative aims to capture children's enthusiasm during the 'warm' week at the end of May when results are immediate.

School's Gratitude

Mrs Allen, Headteacher at Fixby Junior and Infant School, expressed delight: "We are delighted to receive a generous donation of gardening equipment from David Wilson Homes. Learning outdoors provides a valuable hands-on experience for our children, helping them develop new skills, confidence, and an appreciation for nature and the environment."

She added: "The children thoroughly enjoy tending to the plants in our school allotment, and the tools and seeds provided by David Wilson Homes will make a huge difference to their gardening activities. From planting and caring for crops to reaping the rewards of the harvest, the allotment continues to be a wonderful way for pupils to learn, work together, and enjoy the outdoors. We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for their support and generosity."

Outdoor Learning Spaces

Fixby Junior and Infant School boasts extensive outdoor learning spaces, including a dedicated forest school area, a vegetable patch, and a sensory garden. These environments give pupils the chance to explore nature and engage their senses through hands-on experiences.

Housebuilder's Commitment

Sam Wood, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: "As a leading housebuilder, it's important to us to support the communities in the areas where we build new homes. We are delighted to support Fixby Junior and Infant School by donating garden equipment that will help the children explore, create, and learn outdoors. It's wonderful to know this donation will encourage imaginative play and give the children even more opportunities to connect with nature this National Children's Gardening Week."
