Homes Evacuated in Unexploded Bomb Scare

A bomb disposal unit was urgently deployed to a quiet residential cul-de-sac in Bromsgrove on Friday, November 21, after a suspected unexploded military device was discovered. The incident led to the immediate evacuation of homes and the establishment of a large safety cordon.

Military Memorabilia Sparks Major Alert

The alert began at a property on Churchfields Close in the Sidemoor area. Police confirmed that the item, described as a suspected unexploded ordnance, was found amongst what was believed to be military memorabilia. A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police stated that officers were called to the scene following the discovery.

Authorities swiftly implemented a 100-metre exclusion zone around the address. Residents living within this cordon were asked to leave their homes immediately. The local authority offered optional temporary accommodation to those displaced by the emergency.

Road Closure and Controlled Explosion

As a precaution, the road was closed at its junction with Churchfields Road. Experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene to assess the situation. The device was safely moved to a secure location shortly before 2:30 pm.

A controlled explosion was then carried out to neutralise the potential threat. Following this successful operation, the police cordon was lifted, the road was reopened, and residents were given the all-clear to return to their homes. Police thanked the local community for their patience and cooperation during the disruption.
