Police application for licence review

West Midlands Police applied for a summary (speedy interim) review of the premises licence, stating: “On Saturday 27 June 2026 the venue was open and trading. At 23.35 hours an incident occurred in the bar whereby a number of persons at least seven were involved in serious disorder whereby numerous punches were thrown. And at least one person a female was subject to an assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Given the seriousness of the trigger incident, in my opinion immediate steps are required that can best be achieved through the summary review procedures.”

Licensing sub-committee hearing

Birmingham City Council’s licensing sub-committee B heard the application on Tuesday, June 30 at 12 noon. No representatives from The Old Crown (AD) Limited, the designated premises supervisor Kevin Smith, or their legal team attended the meeting.

Sergeant Mark Swallow, representing the police, requested the hearing be held in private to show CCTV footage of the incident. The committee agreed, and after reviewing the footage and further evidence, they returned to public session and suspended the pub's licence temporarily. A full review must take place within 28 days of the police application.
