Investigation Launched Following Assault on Council Worker
A Birmingham City Council street cleaner was the victim of an unprovoked assault while carrying out his duties on Moseley Road in Balsall Heath. The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, November 26, prompting an immediate response from West Midlands Police.
Details of the Morning Attack
The council employee was reportedly emptying a bin opposite the Lidl supermarket when he was attacked by two men. The assault took place between 7:00 am and 7:40 am.
A colleague who came to the victim's aid was also injured during the altercation. The primary victim sustained facial injuries and received treatment at the scene.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
West Midlands Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident and are carrying out local enquiries. Officers are urging anyone with information to make contact.
A police spokesperson stated: "Officers are carrying out local enquiries to gather evidence and anyone who saw what happened can call 101 quoting crime number 20/455801/25."
The force is particularly interested in speaking to anyone who witnessed the event or who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at that time. The local council has also been contacted for a statement regarding the safety of its public-facing staff.
