Five individuals have been charged following a violent confrontation where knives were reportedly brandished at a pub in Rugby on Boxing Day evening. The incident, described by police as "large-scale disorder," unfolded in the town centre, casting a shadow over festive celebrations.

Violence Erupts on Albert Street

The trouble began at a venue on Albert Street in Rugby town centre shortly after 10:30 PM on Friday, 26 December. According to witness accounts provided to Warwickshire Police, violence suddenly flared between two separate groups of men. It was alleged that several individuals among them were armed with knives during the altercation.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at 10:40 PM after receiving multiple reports of the ongoing disorder. Their swift response led to the identification and detention of several suspects believed to be involved, along with the seizure of a number of weapons. Fortunately, despite the alarming nature of the incident, no one sustained serious injuries.

Charges and Court Appearances

Following an investigation, five men were subsequently charged in connection with the Boxing Day pub brawl. All have been remanded in custody. Each faces charges of affray and possession of a knife in a public place.

The accused are:

  • Stefan Farrell, 21, of Garyth Williams Close, Rugby;
  • Kalvin Gilbert-Farrell, 18, of Poole Close, Rugby;
  • Taylor Kessna, 19, of Selborne Road, Rugby;
  • Ryan Macdonald, 22, of Richard Walker Way, Rugby;
  • Wesley Quigley, 21, of Maurne Road, Dublin, Republic of Ireland.

The five men are scheduled to make their first appearance before Coventry Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 December.

Police Appeal for Further Information

Detective Sergeant Matt McGreevy of Warwickshire Police CID condemned the scenes, stating the investigation was launched following "disgraceful scenes in Rugby on Friday night while many people were out celebrating the festive season."

While progress has been made, the police investigation remains active. Authorities are working to identify and locate others who may have been involved in the violent incident. Warwickshire Police are now urgently appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who may have captured video footage on their mobile phones, to come forward.

A police spokesperson reiterated the appeal: "Anyone with information can contact us via our website or by calling 101, quoting incident number 263 of 26 December 2025. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
