An 11-year-old girl has been found dead in a park near Elmley Castle Cricket Club in Worcestershire, with her death currently being treated as unexplained. The youngster, who has not yet been officially named, was reported missing at around 11.20pm on Sunday, October 4. Her body was later discovered in the park near Pershore, prompting a police investigation.

Police investigation underway

West Mercia Police remained at the scene on Monday, October 5, with officers working to establish the circumstances surrounding her death. Chief Inspector Daniel Pilkington confirmed that the death is being treated as unexplained and that enquiries are ongoing to provide the family with answers.

“We know the death of a young girl will be deeply upsetting for the local community, and our thoughts remain with her family and friends at this time,” Pilkington said. “Her death is currently being treated as unexplained, and we are carrying out enquiries to fully understand the circumstances and provide her family with the answers they deserve.”

Community mourns and pays tribute

Condolences have poured in online as communities expressed their sadness at the tragic news. Caroline Clements said: “Thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time. May she rest in peace.” Suzanne Tranter added: “So sad. The poor girl. Sending my deepest condolences to her family and friends.” Lynsey Claire Crystal Perry wrote: “That’s awful thinking of her family at this sad time.”

A single bouquet of sunflowers was left on a wooden bench near the cordon in the wake of the tragedy. The local community has been deeply affected by the loss, with many expressing their support for the family during this difficult period.

Increased police presence in Elmley Castle

People can expect an increased police presence in the Worcestershire village following the girl’s death. Pilkington urged the public not to speculate about the circumstances, saying: “We would also ask people not to speculate about the circumstances surrounding her death. This is an incredibly difficult time for her family, and I would urge everyone to be mindful of the impact that speculation could have on them.”

He added: “People may notice an increased police presence in Elmley Castle while these enquiries continue. I want to reassure residents that this is part of our work to establish exactly what has happened, and officers will also be available to speak to anyone in the community who has concerns.”
