A schoolboy was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury after being struck by a car near Broadmeadow Infant & Nursery school in Kings Norton, with the driver arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.
The collision happened on Monyhull Hall Road during the school run shortly before 3.30pm today, October 21. West Midlands Ambulance Service received reports of the incident at 3.23pm and dispatched an ambulance, a paramedic officer, the WMAS critical care car and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire air ambulance to the scene.

Police cordon and arrest
A section of Monyhull Hall Road remained sealed off by police tonight, with a double-decker bus and a car seen within the cordon. BirminghamLive reporter Ben Perrin said the road was still cordoned off "more than three hours" after the incident.
"A grey or silver-coloured car, with a damaged bumper, was within the police tape," he said. "A double decker bus is also in situ. Officers were unsure how long the scene would be held for."
Police said the driver of the car involved in the collision had been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and was taken into custody for questioning.
Community reaction
Locals immediately took to social media to wish the schoolboy a "speedy recovery". Helena King wrote: "Hoping the young lad is doing okay. I hope he makes a speedy recovery." Another shared, "Hope he is okay," adding prayer emojis, while a third added: "How sad."
