A 69-year-old man was re-arrested in Worcester on Saturday, October 17, on suspicion of murder following the death of a British pensioner in Greece. The arrest comes after Jaqueline Causton, 66, was found unresponsive at her villa on the island of Zakynthos, also known as Zante, on May 14.
Mrs Causton, from Bawtry in South Yorkshire, was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead. The man was initially arrested on June 12 on suspicion of murder, before being bailed. Following his re-arrest in Worcester, he was bailed again pending further enquiries, according to South Yorkshire Police.
Investigation described as 'complex'
An opening inquest into Mrs Causton's death did not address how she may have died. A police officer involved in the case said the investigation was "complex" because investigation material uncovered by the Greek authorities was still held in the country.
South Yorkshire Police told BirminghamLive: "On Saturday, October 17, a 69-year-old man was arrested in Worcester on suspicion of murder. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries."
Background and ongoing enquiries
The case has drawn attention due to the international nature of the investigation, with evidence held in Greece complicating the process. The man's identity has not been released by police, and no further details about the circumstances of Mrs Causton's death have been made public.
The re-arrest marks the latest development in a case that began with the discovery of Mrs Causton at her villa in May. Authorities have not confirmed whether any charges will be brought, and the investigation remains ongoing.
