West Midlands Police have launched an investigation after a man in his 50s was found seriously injured on a busy Birmingham street this morning. The discovery was made on Navigation Street, outside Grand Central in the city centre, at just before 6.40am on Saturday, August 15.
It is understood the man had been assaulted. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and a section of the street was cordoned off and manned by police for several hours. Access to Birmingham New Street Station and Grand Central shopping centre was not thought to have been affected.
Police appeal for witnesses
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We're investigating after a man was found injured in Navigation Street, Birmingham city centre, at just before 6.40am today (15 August). It's understood the man, aged in his 50s, had been assaulted. He has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."
The force is now urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information, to come forward. CCTV trawls are underway as officers seek to "establish the full circumstances and identify who was involved."
