Police in the Midlands have launched a major search operation to locate two young girls who have been missing since the early hours of Sunday morning. Angelica, aged 12, and Verity, aged 11, were last seen in the Newbold area of Rugby on Sunday, August 9. Officers have described finding them as their "absolute priority" and confirmed they are working around the clock.
Dedicated search underway
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Nailor of Warwickshire Police confirmed that a dedicated search operation is in full swing, with officers determined not to stop until the girls are found. Residents in Rugby have reported hearing the police helicopter and seeing a significant police presence in key areas as part of the extensive efforts.
"Finding Angelica and Verity is our absolute priority," said DCI Nailor. "We've also been carrying out area searches, house-to-house enquiries and CCTV checks. Behind the scenes, detectives are also working on digital tracking."
Public urged to help
The police are appealing for the public's help in locating the girls, asking everyone to look at the photos of Angelica and Verity and call 999 immediately if they are spotted. DCI Nailor expressed gratitude for the public's vigilance: "Our search will continue until Angelica and Verity are found, and I want to take this chance to thank the public for their vigilance."
However, officers have cautioned against well-meaning members of the public organising their own searches. "At this stage, whilst we thank everyone for keeping a lookout, we would ask that people please do not attempt to organise searches themselves," DCI Nailor added. "We have officers on the ground searching and they have special training. Where there are opportunities to help we will advise through our social media channels."

Anyone who sees the girls or knows of their whereabouts is urged to call 999 immediately, quoting incident number 123 of 8 August. The police have emphasised that this is an ongoing investigation and they will continue to provide updates through official channels.
The disappearance has understandably caused concern within the Rugby community, with many residents offering support and sharing appeals on social media. The police have acknowledged this support and stressed that the safety of Angelica and Verity remains their foremost concern.
As the search continues, officers are leaving no stone unturned, combining traditional search methods with modern digital tracking techniques. The helicopter and ground patrols are expected to remain visible in the area until the girls are found.
