Two girls who went missing from the West Midlands have been found safe and well more than 200 miles away in Cornwall, Warwickshire Police confirmed today (August 11). The girls, aged 11 and 12, were reported missing on Saturday night, August 8, and were last seen in the Newbold area of Rugby, Warwickshire, in the early hours of Sunday, August 9.
Major Search Operation Launched
The disappearance sparked a massive police search, with detectives, specialist teams, and officers from across the county called in to locate the two schoolgirls. The search involved extensive enquiries and public appeals for information.
Warwickshire Police issued an update this afternoon confirming the girls had been found. They were located by Devon and Cornwall Police, who were carrying out enquiries on behalf of Warwickshire Police.
Found Safe in Cornwall
A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: "Thank you to everyone for sharing our appeal. The girls have been found safe and well by our colleagues at Devon and Cornwall Police who were carrying out some enquiries on our behalf."
The spokesperson added: "The family have now been informed that they have been found. Investigations are ongoing into how they came to be in Cornwall."
Police Thank Public and Officers
The force expressed gratitude for the public's assistance, stating: "We would like to take a moment to thank everyone who reported information, shared our appeals, and offered to help with our searches. Thank you also to all of our officers and staff who have been working round the clock to find them."
The girls' family has been informed, and enquiries are ongoing to determine how the pair ended up in Cornwall, which is more than 200 miles from their last known location.
