Post-Mortem Reveals Assault Injuries

A post-mortem examination conducted on Thursday confirmed that Mr. Lucas, a man in his 50s, died as a result of injuries consistent with an assault. Police were alerted to the scene after a member of the public spotted a man in the river. Officers and paramedics attended promptly, but unfortunately, Mr. Lucas had already passed away.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police confirmed: "We've begun a murder investigation in connection with a man's body being found in Leamington. We were called to Victoria Park shortly before 7.45am on Wednesday after a member of the public saw a man in the river."

Police Appeal for Information and Community Reassurance

Detective Inspector Gareth Unett addressed community concerns, emphasizing that a dedicated team of detectives is working diligently to establish the full circumstances surrounding Mr. Lucas' death. He stated: "I understand this will be concerning for the community, but I'd like to reassure them we have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances that led to the man's death."

Investigators are conducting multiple enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Officers will be present in and around Victoria Park to provide reassurance to the public and address any questions from concerned residents.

DI Unett made a direct appeal for information: "We'd ask anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning to come forward and share what they know." He also urged people to refrain from speculating online, as such actions could cause unnecessary distress to the grieving family and potentially hinder the investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to report it online, quoting incident number 68 of April 15. The police are treating this as a murder investigation and are committed to bringing those responsible to justice while supporting the victim's family during this difficult time.
