A serving police officer from Warwickshire has pleaded not guilty to stealing cash, jewellery, and a power tool while on duty, a court has heard.
Officer Faces Three Theft Charges
Police Constable Robert Davies, 49, entered not guilty pleas to three counts of theft at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, 7 January 2026. The charges are all connected to his duties as a police officer.
The court was told the allegations relate to incidents in 2023 and 2024. Davies is accused of taking cash, jewellery, and a power tool from an address in Redditch following a drugs raid in November 2023.
He is also accused of stealing £180 in cash "belonging to The Crown" in Alcester in February 2024.
Long-Serving Officer and Delayed Trial
A previous hearing heard that Davies is a constable with 21 years of service and was working as an exhibits officer at the time of the alleged offences.
Judge Peter Cooke granted Davies bail and fixed a three-day trial to begin on 30 May 2028. The judge acknowledged the significant backlog in court cases, stating the trial date was "a very long way off."
Independent Investigation Directed Proceedings
The case was investigated by Warwickshire Police under the direction of the Independent Office for Police Conduct's (IOPC) anti-corruption unit. The IOPC confirmed the charges relate to the alleged theft of cash and property "in the course of his duties."
The force had initially referred the matter to the police watchdog. Davies, of Alcester, Warwickshire, will remain on bail until his trial in 2028.
