Shaun Freeman, 57, of Abbey Foregate in Shrewsbury, has been handed a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) following his guilty plea to theft at Telford Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 24. The order, which remains in force until September 2029, imposes five specific conditions restricting his movements and behaviour in the town centre.
Five Conditions of the Order
Under the terms of the CBO, Freeman is prohibited from entering Shrewsbury town centre, except when transiting through the town on public transport. He is also barred from entering three specific retail premises: Home Bargains on Abbey Foregate, Asda on Old Potts Way, and the Co-Op on Sutton Road.
Additionally, the order forbids him from consuming alcohol in any public place or being in possession of alcohol in an open vessel in any public location. These conditions are designed to address the persistent anti-social behaviour that led to the court action.
Breach Could Lead to Custody
If Freeman breaches any of the conditions set out in the Criminal Behaviour Order, he could face a custodial sentence. The court made clear that the order is intended to protect the public from further incidents in Shrewsbury town centre.
Police Response
PCSO Joseph Bradley commented on the order, stating: "CBOs are put in place to protect the public from persistent anti-social and threatening behaviour, and we will take robust action against anyone who chooses to ignore them in the town centre."
Bradley added: "We will continue to take action against those who breach these orders and commit offences that impact residents, businesses and visitors in Shrewsbury town centre." The police have emphasised that they will actively monitor compliance with the order and pursue enforcement where necessary.
The order reflects ongoing efforts by local authorities and law enforcement to address anti-social behaviour in the area, with the conditions tailored to prevent repeat offending and safeguard the community.
