A suspected serial shop thief is set to appear in court in Wolverhampton after being arrested in connection with nearly 20 thefts, according to West Midlands Police.
Arrest in Wombourne
The suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested in Wombourne on Monday following a series of shop thefts in the Oxley area over the past two months. Police have now charged Philip Jones, aged 37, with 19 counts of shop theft.
Jones has been held in police custody and is due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today, Wednesday, June 17.
Police statement
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "A suspected serial shop thief is due in court today after being arrested on suspicion of almost 20 thefts in Wolverhampton. The man in his 30s was arrested on Monday in Wombourne, following a number of thefts at shops in the Oxley area in the last two months. Philip Jones, aged 37, has been charged with 19 counts of shop theft and has been held in police custody to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today."
The force urged the public to report any suspicious activity by calling 101 or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
