A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 16-year-old was shot and left fighting for his life in Birmingham. The incident occurred on Bowyer Road, near St Saviours Road, in the Alum Rock area, at approximately 5:30pm on Wednesday, July 1.
Police were called to the scene following reports of a shooting. The victim, a 16-year-old boy, sustained gunshot wounds and was described as being in a critical condition. West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that the teenager had suffered potentially life-threatening injuries.
Emergency Response and Medical Care
Ambulance crews arrived at the junction of Bowyer Road and St Saviours Road to find the victim being cared for by bystanders. The service dispatched one ambulance, a paramedic officer, a critical care car, and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to the scene. A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “Upon arrival, ambulance staff discovered a teenage boy being cared for by bystanders. He was assessed and had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries. He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to hospital via land for further treatment.”
Arrest and Investigation
West Midlands Police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody and is being questioned by officers. Detective Inspector Francis Nock, from the Major Crime Team, stated: “Our investigation is continuing and I would urge anyone who might have seen something or has dashcam or doorbell footage to get in touch. Officers will be in the area today to offer reassurance to the local community.”
Police have clarified that although the incident occurred near a mosque, they do not believe the shooting is connected to the place of worship.
