Police have issued an urgent alert to homeowners in two neighbouring Midlands estates following a recent spate of car crime, with vandals smashing vehicle windows to steal possessions from inside.
The incidents have been occurring in the Hadley and Leegomery areas of Telford over recent days, according to West Mercia Police. Officers are now carrying out patrols of the area, while members of the public have been urged to keep their vehicles locked.
Overnight crime spree in Telford
West Mercia Police reported that thieves are operating in the early hours of the morning, with incidents taking place up to 5am. The force has warned that vehicle windows are being smashed and searches of vehicles are being made, with property stolen from within.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We have seen a spate of overnight vehicle crime in the Hadley and Leegomery area in the last few days. This is taking place in the early hours of the morning up to 5am."
Police urge residents to remove valuables
The spokesperson added: "Please ensure you leave no valuables on display inside your vehicle and where possible leave all seats clear and nothing on display that could entice a thief to check the contents."
Residents have been advised not to become targets by clearing their vehicles, securing them, and parking off the road where possible. The force stated: "Please don't be a target, clear your vehicle, secure your vehicle and park off the road where possible."
Patrols and ongoing enquiries
Officers are currently patrolling the estates in response to the incidents. The police spokesperson confirmed: "We will be patrolling and enquiries are ongoing into offences committed."
Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow the safety advice provided by West Mercia Police while the investigation continues.
