Three people were assaulted after a large group of youths descended on Solihull town centre, police have confirmed. The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, May 24, when a gang of young individuals caused disorder in the area.
Police Response and Dispersal Order
Officers from West Midlands Police were called to the scene, and upon arrival, a significant portion of the group fled. However, several individuals were detained and issued dispersal notices. Shortly before 8:30 pm, a 48-hour dispersal order was granted for the entire town centre, granting police special powers to arrest anyone who refuses to leave the area when instructed. This order remains in effect until 8:30 pm on Monday, May 25.
Statement from Police
Inspector Catherine Ingram of Solihull Police stated: “We will not tolerate violence and anti-social behaviour in Solihull town centre. Our officers acted swiftly to disperse this group and protect the public. We will maintain a visible presence over the Bank Holiday weekend to ensure the town centre remains a safe environment for everyone.”
A West Midlands Police spokesperson added: “We have taken action to disperse a large group of youths in Solihull town centre following disorder that resulted in three people being assaulted. A large number of the group left when officers arrived, while others were detained and subsequently issued dispersal notices. The dispersal order covers the entire town centre and will last for 48 hours. Anyone refusing to leave when ordered can be arrested.”
