Daniel Boyd, 37, of Plane Tree Road, Walsall, has admitted drink-driving after police found him asleep in his Audi A6 on Friar Park Road, Wednesbury, on September 12. Officers had to bang on the windows to wake him.
Tests showed Boyd had 105 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, against the legal limit of 35 microgrammes. He had turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism after his mother, who has dementia, reportedly did not recognise him.
Court Hearing and Interim Ban
His legal representative told Dudley Magistrates' Court: "He realises he was being stupid, but by then, the damage had been done."
Boyd was given an interim driving disqualification and is due to be sentenced at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on December 10.
Background and Impact
The incident occurred after Boyd used alcohol as a coping mechanism when his mother, who has dementia, he claimed 'didn't recognise him'. The case highlights the consequences of drink-driving, with Boyd now facing a potential driving ban and sentencing next month.
