Tipton Crash: Man Dies, Four Children Injured

Police have launched an investigation following a fatal crash in Tipton, where a 48-year-old man died after his car collided with a building. The incident occurred on High Street in Princes End on the evening of Tuesday, June 2.

Details of the Incident

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 10:20 PM after a Honda Civic struck what is believed to be a takeaway restaurant. The driver, a 48-year-old man, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival of medics. A female passenger sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. Four children—two boys and two girls—were also taken to hospital for treatment. Additionally, a passing cyclist was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Police Investigation

West Midlands Police confirmed that an investigation is underway. A spokesperson stated: "We are investigating after a man has sadly died following a collision in Tipton last night. Just before 10:20 PM, we were called to High Street in Princes End after a vehicle hit a property. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the driver of the Honda Civic, a 48-year-old man, died at the scene. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this tragic time."

The spokesperson added: "There were five other occupants in the vehicle, including a woman and four children, who have all been taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The road was closed overnight and has now reopened. Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is keen to hear from anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage from around the area, and anyone who saw the collision should get in touch with us."

Ambulance Service Statement

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service provided further details: "Crews arrived to find a car which had been involved in a collision with a building. The driver, a man, was in a critical condition. He received advanced life support on scene but was sadly confirmed deceased by ambulance staff a short time later. A woman passenger sustained serious injuries and ambulance crews administered trauma care before she was conveyed to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. Two boys from the car sustained minor injuries and were conveyed in the same ambulance to hospital. Two girls from the car suffered potentially serious injuries and received trauma care from the team of medics before both were taken on blue lights and sirens to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further care. A man, believed to be a passing cyclist, sustained minor injuries and was discharged on scene and left in the care of relatives."
