A 45-year-old man has appeared in court after a loaded handgun was discovered by police officers responding to reports of a disorder in Tipton. The weapon, allegedly loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, was recovered on Peel Street.
Officers flooded the area at around 6:30 pm on April 26 following reports of violence involving individuals with weapons. Choudry Ahmed was arrested on Wednesday, May 6, and subsequently charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of cannabis.
Ahmed was remanded in custody and appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Friday, May 8. A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We've charged a man with firearms offences after a gun was recovered following disorder in Tipton. We were called to Peel Street just after 6:30 pm on 26 April after reports of violence involving people with weapons."
The spokesperson added: "A handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene and an investigation launched to identify those involved. Choudry Ahmed, 45, was arrested on Wednesday and was yesterday charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of cannabis. He was remanded in custody to appear before Wolverhampton magistrates today."
A second man, aged 28, has also been arrested and released on bail while the investigation continues. Police are urging anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference 20/227519/26.
