Date travellers set to leave Kings Norton park as eviction notice served. A convoy of caravans are currently parked up on playing fields.
Travellers have been ordered to move after setting up camp on a family park in Birmingham. Caravans and other vehicles arrived at Kings Norton Playing Fields, off Pershore Road South, on Thursday (June 19), with more pulling up throughout Friday.
Reform Selly Oak said they are in talks with the council to get the large camp off the land by Monday (June 22). Reform UK Birmingham Selly Oak apologised for the incursion before adding: "I can confirm we are in talks with Birmingham City Council and we are looking at removing them by Monday at the latest." "I can confirm all our elected councillors have already taken legal action against them."
The travellers have said to have broken the barriers put up by the council. A group was also said to be on Daisy Farm Park, off Maypole Lane.
One man said: "When will our councillors do something to prevent this from happening, these playing fields need to be secure and have preventative measures in place !!!!" Another local said: "Will someone in authority please sort out this farce we go through every summer !"
When asked previously about the issue of traveller camps on public land, the council said there were alternative sites for travellers across the city. A spokesperson said: "The council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover this land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it. Our officers have carried out the required welfare checks and a notice has been served to the occupants, which is in line with the established legal processes."
