Woman struck by hit-and-run driver in Birmingham
This is the harrowing moment a female pedestrian was knocked over by a hit-and-run driver in Birmingham. The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was crossing Foxton Road in Alum Rock when a silver hatchback struck her, sending her over the bonnet and onto the roadway.
The motorist drove away without stopping, leaving passers-by to rush to the victim's aid. West Midlands Police and paramedics were called to the scene. The woman was treated for serious injuries and taken to Heartlands Hospital.
Police appeal for information
West Midlands Police are trying to track the driver and have appealed for information. A police statement said: "We were called after a woman was struck by a car in Foxton Road, Birmingham, at just before 1.30pm on Monday (29 June). Officers attended and the woman in her 20s was treated by ambulance staff for injuries which are understood not to be life-changing. The car involved, believed to be a silver hatchback, failed to stop and enquiries are underway to identify and trace the vehicle and driver. Ambulance response
An ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on Foxton Road in Birmingham at around 1.30pm on Monday and sent an ambulance to the scene. On arrival, crews found a car and a pedestrian had been involved in a collision. The pedestrian, a woman, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Heartlands Hospital."
Similar incident on same road
This incident comes after a three-year-old was hit as he crossed the same road, with other children, on April 8. The vehicle also left the scene, and a 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, according to police.
Community action against dangerous driving
Meanwhile, Zaheer Akbar from Alum Rock Community Forum, along with a local PCSO, are in the process of setting up a 'Speed Watch' to combat dangerous driving in the area.
