Norfolk's Oldest Private Garden Opens for Charity Event

The Bishop's Garden, believed to be the oldest private garden in Norwich, will open its gates to the public for a special charity event on Sunday, July 12, from 1pm to 4:30pm (last entry at 4pm). Located on Bishopgate, the organic site features a wildflower labyrinth, a productive kitchen plot, and a jungle walk with towering exotic plants. Visitors can also spot a rare shrub grown from a sprig taken from Queen Victoria's wedding bouquet.

Fundraising for First Aid Volunteers

The event aims to raise vital funds for St John Ambulance volunteers in Norfolk and Waveney. Alongside botanical displays, families can enjoy homemade refreshments, garden games, and explore a real emergency ambulance. Emergency trainers will deliver live life-saving first aid and CPR demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

Gratitude from St John Ambulance

Ed Webb, network lead for St John’s Norwich Network, said: "We are very grateful for this opportunity for the public to enjoy one of Norwich's most historic and beautiful spaces while supporting the work of St John Ambulance in Norfolk and Waveney. Whether visitors come for the garden and plants, the refreshments or to learn more about first aid, we look forward to welcoming them on the day."
