Tamworth Castle Designated as Blue Peter Badge Venue
Tamworth Castle, a historic attraction located just thirty minutes from Birmingham, has implemented a significant change to its admission policy. The castle has now been officially recognised as a Blue Peter badge venue, enabling certain visitors to enjoy complimentary entry.
Free Admission for Young Explorers
Under this new scheme, children who possess a valid Blue Peter badge and corresponding ID card can enter Tamworth Castle at no cost. This initiative is designed to make the castle's rich historical offerings more accessible to younger audiences. To qualify for free entry, children must be accompanied by a full-paying or concessionary adult, with each adult permitted to bring up to two badge-holding children.
Standard admission fees remain £11.95 for adults and £9.50 for children aged two to fifteen. However, the Blue Peter badge scheme provides a valuable opportunity for families to explore the castle without the additional financial burden for their children.
Educational and Enriching Experiences
Blue Peter badge venues are carefully selected based on the educational and enriching experiences they provide. Tamworth Castle, with its nine centuries of history, offers visitors a chance to step back in time through fifteen fully furnished rooms, expansive grounds, and a tower providing panoramic 360-degree views of the surrounding area.
The castle also houses fascinating artifacts from The Staffordshire Hoard, being one of only three locations authorised to display pieces from this collection of over four thousand items. This combination of historical immersion and unique exhibits makes Tamworth Castle an ideal candidate for the Blue Peter badge programme.
Official Recognition and Commitment
Councillor Lewis Smith, portfolio holder for people services, engagement, leisure and heritage at Tamworth Borough Council, expressed enthusiasm about this development. "Being awarded Blue Peter Badge venue status is a wonderful endorsement of everything we strive to achieve here at Tamworth Castle," he stated.
"This recognition reinforces our commitment to making history accessible and engaging for the next generation. We're excited to welcome more young explorers and their families to the castle. We celebrate this important milestone as we continue to provide memorable experiences that spark learning and imagination."
Additional Accessibility Provisions
The Blue Peter badge scheme at Tamworth Castle includes additional provisions for accessibility:
- Disabled badge holders and their registered carers are also eligible for free entry, with supporting documentation required for carers.
- Tamworth Castle joins over two hundred attractions across the United Kingdom that offer free entry to Blue Peter badge holders.
- The castle operates for eleven months annually, from February through December, opening Thursdays to Sundays plus Bank Holiday Mondays.
This initiative represents a significant step in making cultural and historical attractions more inclusive and accessible to families and young visitors throughout the region.
