Tyreece Clarke-Jones, a drill rapper from Birmingham who fled from HMP Sudbury in May and later appeared to taunt police in online videos, has been recaptured, Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed.
Escape and recapture
The 28-year-old, who performs under the name Tallerz, absconded from the open prison on May 23. After weeks on the run, he was located in the West Midlands area. A force spokesman said: "A man who absconded from HMP Sudbury is no longer being sought by officers. Tyreece Clarke-Jones, 28, was located in the West Midlands area. Thank you to everyone who supported our appeal to find him." The force declined to provide further details at this stage.
Instagram taunts
Following the escape, videos posted to an Instagram account showed Clarke-Jones apparently mocking the police search. One clip, viewed by BirminghamLive, featured a car driving in a sunny location with the caption "I'm by the sea overseas, run it up." Other videos reportedly placed him in Winson Green. The account has since been removed.
Armed robbery sentence
Clarke-Jones, from Quinton, was jailed in 2021 for his role in a violent robbery at the One Stop store on Vicarage Road, Handsworth, on July 18, 2019. Just before lunchtime, four men, including Clarke-Jones, attacked G4S security guards who were delivering £60,000 to the store. The gang made off with £20,000 after Clarke-Jones wielded an axe and another robber used a hammer. He was sentenced to eight years and nine months in prison.
Police appeal
When he first absconded, Derbyshire Constabulary issued a fresh appeal: "We are issuing a fresh appeal for information after a convict absconded from HMP Sudbury. Tyreece Clarke-Jones left the open prison on Saturday, May 23. The 28-year-old is currently serving an eight year and nine-month prison sentence for robbery. Despite significant efforts to locate him, he has still not been found. Officers are investigating a number of lines of enquiry and we are appealing for the public's help to find him."
