A 25-year-old man from Birmingham has been charged with causing injury by dangerous driving and multiple vehicle thefts, West Midlands Police confirmed.
Details of the Charges
Ryan Jones, of no fixed address, was charged on Tuesday, 15 October, with one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, and one count of driving while disqualified. The charges follow an investigation into a series of incidents that took place across Birmingham between August and October this year.
According to police, the most serious incident occurred on 2 October when a 34-year-old woman was seriously injured after being struck by a stolen car in the Small Heath area. The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since been released and is recovering at home.
Investigation and Arrest
Detectives from the West Midlands Police Force CID launched an investigation after the collision, which led to the identification of Jones as a suspect. He was arrested on 14 October and subsequently charged with the offences.
Detective Constable Sarah Evans said: "This was a reckless and dangerous course of driving that left a woman with serious injuries. We are pleased that we have been able to bring charges and hope this provides some reassurance to the community."
Court Appearance
Jones appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 16 October, where he was remanded in custody. He is next due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 13 November.
The court heard that Jones was also wanted for breaching a suspended sentence order imposed earlier this year for similar offences. The judge ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared before the next hearing.
