Mercia Real Estate has been granted planning permission to expand its high-end student accommodation project in Birmingham's Edgbaston area. The approval allows for the addition of 129 new units at the Haüs development located on 12 Calthorpe Road, bringing the total number of beds to 395 across the entire complex.

This £45 million development is designed to offer premium facilities that go beyond standard student housing. Residents will have access to a fully-equipped gym, a private cinema room, a karaoke lounge, and exclusive dining areas. The project is structured around a members' club concept, aiming to provide a unique and upscale living experience for students in Birmingham.

Samuel Clark, CEO of Mercia Real Estate, expressed enthusiasm about the project's progress. "We're excited to welcome our first students this September so they can experience first-hand all of the building's high-end and unique amenities," he stated. The company initially invested £32 million to convert a former HSBC office complex, laying the groundwork for this expanded phase.

Global student accommodation manager Yugo has been appointed to oversee the building's operations. The first phase of construction is scheduled for completion in June, with students expected to move in for the 2026/2027 academic year.
